    AMENITIES & SERVICES
What to expect: Nearly engulfed by tropical gardens and tall trees, the tranquil resort wins recognition for environmental sensitivity and features Barbadian original artworks. From a breezy lobby of coral-stone walls and bleached-wood ceiling, to shady sitting spots, to a hammock-and-cushioned-lounge-chair "garden," to a board-games room, the resort offers a myriad of resting places.

Amenity highlights: The resort sits on a 400-yard stretch of nearly white coral sand buffered by casuarina trees. The beach includes a section where hair braiders ply their trade and vendors sell colorful resortwear. An 80-by-27-foot rectangular pool provides freshwater swimming. The 25-foot-diameter children's pool has a shaded deck with large playpen/cribs (infant beds). Both pools' decks feature wood-shingle shades, umbrellas, and cushioned lounge chairs.

Insider tip: Endangered sea turtles lay eggs on the beach fronting the resort from April to November, with hatchings into December.

Complimentary guided tours are offered of the resort's extensive collection of Barbadian original art and vast tropical gardens. Local artisans and craftspeople sell wares at the resort twice weekly. Entertainment is supplied nightly on an open-air stage in a garden courtyard. During winter season, Saturday nights feature a Bajan (Barbadian) folk show. An astronomer brings a telescope monthly for stargazing on the beach.

Complimentary, supervised children's activities are available in a clubhouse and on a shaded playground. Complimentary shuttles transport guests to downtown Bridgetown daily. A complimentary fitness center 1 mile away is available for guest use, with shuttle service provided.

Off-property activities include bicycle tours, snorkeling trips, hikes, horseback riding, and sailing (surcharges). An air-conditioned business center contains three computers with complimentary high-speed Internet connections and thickly cushioned mahogany chairs. A library furnished with colonial-era furniture and overstuffed seating features Caribbean literature.
